Red Carpet Trend: Sky High Buns & Sultry Eyes

I am obsessed with ballerina buns. I know I have posted about this look before but with fashion week season in full swing all the top designers have returned the elegant up-do on their runways. High ballerina buns personally are my saviour (when I’m running late). They are so easy to do and quick to pull together. If I’m going out for dinner, I keep the look polished but if meeting friends I tease a few strands out to make it look a little messier.

Last night at the Oscars, Jennifer Lopez scored yet another red carpet hit with the sleek and feminine high-rise ballerina bun, smoky, sultry eyes and glowing, bronzed skin.

Above is my attempt at recreating this look. I teamed it with a metallic smokey eye and nude lipstick. I use Mac’s Angel lipstick with lipglass gloss on top.

Top 10 Sexiest Urban Desis List 2012

I just wanted to say a massive (and slightly embarrassed) thank you to California based Urban Desi Radio for picking me to be in the list of Top 10 Sexiest Urban Desis. These lists are always for fun and exceptionally flattering.
Others on the list include Imran (amplifier) Khan, Jay Sean, Padma Lakshmi and Nigel Barker from America’s Next Top Model.

Here is a snapshot of the article.

"Gulzaeb Beg Ali - UK Model and TV Presenter

So you American folk may have not heard of her but, Gulzaeb has fast become a recognized face in the UK fashion modeling industry. She’s a versatile model and a sexy vixen who isn’t afraid to pose with traditional Desi garb or slip into something western and sweet. Classy and sexy. What more would you want?"

A big thank you to my U.S followers. "Sexy" is a state of mind and I'd rather focus on the "classy" but thank you!

Pucker Up In Pink: Hot Pink Lips

THE lip shade of the season is hot pink. All the celebrities are favouring pretty pinks. From blue-based hues to shades of a deeper magenta, stars have been opting for the candy-coloured lipstick. Celebrities as Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj are often seen rocking hot pink lips and the trend is catching.

Be careful not to over-do the pink. Let your lips make the statement and keep the rest of your makeup light. Pink blusher with pink lips will look too over-the-top so try a little bronzer (my favourite) or a subtle peachier cheek.

The fashion world also cottoned onto the trend when bright pink lips appeared in the spring/summer shows of Jill Sander, Clement Ribeiro, Prabal Gurung, Acne, and Marni.

Personally I wear my pink lips when I’m feeling a bit tired. It instantly brightens my face (and my mood). I have also found since going back to brunette hair, pink lips work really nicely. My favourite fashion look is to pair bright pink lips with a nude blazer and a white top. Because the colour is so striking you can tone down the rest of your look and let your lips do the talking.

Two of my favourite hot pink lipsticks are Mac’s Girl About Town & Nars’ Schiap.
Enjoy!

Gloss Over Your Troubles

A recent article in the Daily Mail stated that there has been a rise in the sales of nail polishes in the UK. Two of my favourite nail polish brands Barry M and OPI are garnering quite a lot of shelf space in beauty stores. At Superdrug, nail polish sales rose by 37  per cent last year. And L’Oreal’s nail varnish sales were up 24 per cent, double the increase in lipstick and lip gloss sales.

Women are turning to nail polishes when they want an inexpensive pick-me-up, rather than buying a new lipstick which has typically been the trend. I for one, am one of them. I feel polished (pun intended) and complete when I have a nice hue on my nails. A perfect manicure pulls a whole outfit together. Even so, that when I am going out or making an appearance somewhere I take time to ensure my nails compliment my look. I have worn so many different colours over the past few months.

I find myself drawn to pinks and glittery finishes. I do like the shatter effects that have recently come on to the market but for professional meetings I like a glossy red. It makes me feel happy and uplifts me – given that I work on a computer all day and am constantly looking down at my hands.

There is a small nail polish community on twitter who ask me what I’m wearing regularly. I feel I owe it to them to be testing something new! See how nice I am :)

Here are some pictures I have uploaded to my instagram and twitter over the last few months.

Gloss over your troubles and pick up a pretty colour today… yay!

Violent Lips - Pink & White Stars

Hello lovelies

How fun are these Violent Lips Temporary Lip Appliques? I have seen them everywhere and couldn’t wait to test them. They became really popular in LA and suddenly I see them every where! You get 3 in each pack and they are really simple to apply. All you need to do is trim the corners of the lip transfers, peel the plastic and apply them to your lips. Hold the paper down and dab a damp cotton pad over them until they are secure. Remove the transfer paper and apply more moisture from the damp cotton pad. It can get a bit messy so take your time. They can be easily removed with baby oil or a cleansing wipe.

They can last up to 8 hours so would be perfect on a night out! I can’t wait to try my leopard print ones! You can find lots of different colours, patterns and textures for almost any occasion.

Check out their website http://www.violentlips.com/ for more info.

Chanel Valentines 2012

I know I write a lot about Chanel, but I can’t help it. I almost feel like I’m having a love affair with it. Every collection over the last two years has struck a fashionable cord with me and this limited edition is another example.

Chanel has launched a special Valentine’s 2012 collection. Past collections have featured quilted classic flaps in bright pinks and reds, with heart-shaped chain links or love-themed charms, but this year’s offerings are a bit more subtle. And personally, my favourite! Karl Lagerfeld has opted for a lovely colour palette of blush pink and light gold. I find these colours represent my taste perfectly. They are pretty, subtle almost ethereal.

The collection includes an ipad case, make up bag, pearl earrings, a rose gold cuff (my favourite) and a gold flap bag (another favourite). The designs are classic and chic, which is exactly how I like my Chanel.

I’ll have one of each, please. Thank you :)

Spiritual Salts...

Hello lovelies

I wanted to share with you something quite interesting that happened to me a few days ago. During an appearance recently I was meeting lots of women – mostly from the media and whilst posing for pictures with a lot of them, I met one woman who was particularly spiritual. We posed for a picture together and afterwards she told me something rather insightful. She said that when she stood near me she started feeling hot and flustered. She said she could feel “hot anxious energy” coming from me. She said this was typical of someone who was stressed and carrying heavy burdens. This intrigued me as whenever I meet spiritual people they always tell me the same thing. I talked to her some more and she said that she could pick up on auras and vibes from people just by being near them. She was really kind and suggested that the next time I take a bath I should pour some salt into the water to relax/unwind.

I started to do some research on this and came across various interesting spiritual internet sites. Now, you can take these with a pinch of salt (pun intended) or you can go quite deep into them. Personally for me, if I am feeling upset or stressed about something I find solace in prayer Salah. It always calms me down and rejuvenates my soul. Nevertheless I decided to give the salts a go – probably more so, so I could buy another beauty product without feeling guilty.

According to health studies, salt has beneficial properties. They also note that sea salt is alkaline and therefore helps to de-acidify the body and raise the body's pH levels. Salt water penetrates the skin's pores and enters into the bloodstream, enters the tissues and begins to remove accumulations of certain acids. This is why soaking in hot water and sea salt after a hard and strenuous workout is so soothing, relaxing, and energizing.

Armed with all this information I popped into my local beauty store. There wasn’t a great deal of choice to be honest. I purchased Radox bath salts with thyme. I excitedly got home and added 2 handfuls of salts into my bathwater. I was feeling particularly tired last night. The aftermath of a busy week left me feeling quite lethargic. I got into the bath – and I have to admit it was very relaxing. Did it rid me of my hot/anxious energy??? I don’t know… but I did feel calmer. I have used the salts every day this week (overkill – you say) but a girl like me has many stresses :p
